Question:
Believe it or not I went on your average low fat diet to lower my cholesterol. I was on the diet one week when I started get bloating and cramping pains after eating. A nurse said it was my body adjusting to not getting all that nasty fat I was used to eating. So I dealt with it. Figured my body missed McDonald’s…lost the average four and a half to five pounds that first week. Normal for a diet. The cramping got worse. To the point that it didn’t matter what I ate. My doctor was a moron and thought gastroenteritis. Finally after much bloating, gas, cramping and diahreah….got a referel to a Gastroenterologist doctor he knew before the colonoscopy what I had…colitis. He did a quick rectal exam and found blood. I had no clue there was blood in my stool but had seen mucus. The colonoscopy proved UC and the rest is history. That was april 2001. Heather
Response:
I have UC. Bloating, with pain in lower abdomen. I went to bed, and blessed relief, the pain stopped (for two minutes) then I turned 90 degrees, and the pain went away, for two minutes! I turned like I was on a spit for hours then began The D, bleeding and a 911 trip to the hospital for 11 days. Boyd — "The cure for boredom is curiosity. There is no cure for curiosity." Mine was very subtle the first flare, maybe went to the bathroom about 3 times (wasn’t diagnosed the first time). Painful joints, night sweat, felt like I had the flu. The second flare many, many, more trips to the bathroom, eventually couldn’t eat or drink much of anything, cramping pain, blood in stool which got progressively worse, night sweats, painful joints, weight loss. hmm.. like the fabled "egg burps" that my brother gets after strawberries? I got nasty tasting stomach gas the second day of my high school orientation. This was accompanied by a developing fistula, fever, but as far as i can recall, little or no bowel pain. -adam

Have them do a ASCA and a pANCA test. (blood test) this will help to DX the problem. ASCA is for CD and pANCA is forUC Mike >Hi, >Having stomach pain, mega gas, borderline constipation, pain in my back and >below anterier and posterior with bubbly feelin of gas, continually.
