slow recovery after surgery
Question:
Hi Shannon, I haven’t had surgery, but I have had low hemoglobin, and especially for a guy 9.1 is still pretty low, so that can explain a lot of the fatigue. As for the nausea and stomach pains, do his doctors have him on some antiulcer med? Those high doses of prednisone could have hurt his stomach, and that can take a while to heal even once off the stuff. In fact, just being weaned fast from high doses of pred, which is what drs like to do to patients after this surgery, can lead to depression and bad fatigue. – Hide quoted text — Show quoted text ->Hi, my husband just had his colon removed and he’s supposed to have it >reconnected in a few weeks. Shannon You and your husband might interested in reading ‘Joe’s Colon Wars’ http://members.tripod.com/dexdelrillian/ Joe had the surgery last year, and wrote an account of his surgery on his web pages. (Don’t be alarmed when you click on this link you will see ‘The Worldwide Center for Stupidity.’ This is Joe’s home page. The link to ‘Colon Wars’ is half way down.) Did I mention that Joe has some sense of humor? Done miss his ‘Trip to the Zoo.’ Howard – Hide quoted text — Show quoted text – > Hi, my husband just had his colon removed and he’s supposed to have it > reconnected in a few weeks. Hi, my husband just had his colon removed and he’s supposed to have it reconnected in a few weeks. He had the surgery on February 6th, and he is getting a little bit depressed, because he doesn’t seem to be feeling any better than when he came home. When they decided to do the surgery, his colitis had gotten pretty bad and he was on high doses of prednisone. he lost 30 pounds, and his hemoglobin got as low as 7.9. Which is pretty low for a male. Now after two weeks, his Hemoglobin is up to about 9.1, but he says he feels nauseous all the time and he has times where his stomach hurts him, plus he’s tired all the time. He is worried about having a blockage, or an abscess. Has anyone else felt like this after surgery? If so, was it normal, or was something wrong. Please drop us a line and let us know.
