I am done!  Finished Sunday.  Course we buy only for the kids still in high school, and our own kids, and not anymore for the masses of siblings and their spouses and adult kids.  We do a "gorup exchange" game, and anyone who puts in a gift ($20 range) gets to participate. Makes life so much easier. Now, shoppping done, I will start baking in about 10 days  - I usually make about 2 dozen loaves of Croatian nut bread (filled yeast bread)..if I start early enough  I can finish in one day, albeit usually about midnight.   – Hide quoted text — Show quoted text – >as for the Christmas shopping, I am almost finished thankyouverymuch.  Just >a few more picky people to shop for. >Mary > fgt, > I would have the colonoscopy done first.  My husband has Crohn’s and it >can > cause inflammation (other symptoms) in other areas of the body.  He also > gets inflammation in his eye, has enteropathic arthritis and occasionally > has problems with pg wounds. The muscle pain could be from the joints, and arthritis, another side-effect for IBD. mgbio – Hide quoted text — Show quoted text – > O.K. but arent his symptoms worse than mine? Response:

It could be, but as Deb said, there is no way to know without seeing a GI, preferably one at a teaching hospital who specializes in IBD.  A small percentage of IBD patients do suffer from neuropathy in their feet and hands, I know I do.  That, too, should be checked out by a neurologist.  However, I’d deal with the colon problems first as it may relate to the numbness.  Good luck! :)  mgbio – Hide quoted text — Show quoted text – > I realize that this should be determined by a doctor, but I am trying > to decide which direction to go and just getting some opinions. > I definately have an inflammation of the colon. Response:

Go for the scope, that will help get biopsies to determine if you have inflammation in your colon and if so, if it is CD or UC.  If your inflammation is in your small intestine or higher the colonoscopy will not be of much use and then you will need to have an upper GI w/ SMFT (small bowel follow through) to diagnose CD.  Mine was caught by CT scan, by accident.  They thought I had blood in my urine and were looking for a kidney stone.  In retrospect how I wish that had been the problem! :)  mgbio – Hide quoted text — Show quoted text – > Yes, I knew this was coming. Response:

my cd was mild for some time, then got to be more medium, never severe.  my docs are amazed at how my "other" sx’s are worse than my cd.  they are all related to cd however.  getting the cd under control helped the worst ones, but not all of them all the way. something called "spondyloarthropathies" is an umbrella term for a number of inflammation type diseases.  i have, under this term, something called "enteropathic" sx’s.  enteropathics usually effect about 20% of ibd sufferers and consist of one, any two or all three of the following" 1.  skin conditions.  usually pg or en. 2.  eye conditions.  mine is episcleritis 3.  joint/tendon or connective tendon to bone or joint tissue inflammation, better known as enteropathic arthritis. my meds for cd controls my pg and assists with the eye inflammation and the arthritis.  i take either celebrex or lodine for the enteropathic arthritis and i use 4 different drops for my eye, depending on what it is doing at the time.  i use: 1.  restastis for ongoing control when inflammation is not active.  this is a cyclosplorine emulshion. 2.  for flares, i use pred drops and voltaren, alternating.  they work on opposing ends of the spectrum to stop the inflammation and settle it down. neither one of these alone work nearly as well as using both. 3.  i have a dialator if the pain gets too bad, it relaxes the eye.  eye movements when it flares is like rubbing a sore, just irratates it. i hope this helps.  anymore questions, just ask away. jeff (the human medicine cabinet)

His symptoms are not bad right now (under control with meds) and he still gets inflammation in his eye and has gotten the arthritis with his actual crohn’s symptoms reduced.  He was on here lastnight.  He must have had trouble posting. Mary

O.K. but arent his symptoms worse than mine? I am not on any medication, have no diarhea, blood, real abdominal pain. This part is liveable. Yes, I knew this was coming. I have been to the doctors. I do have inflamation of the colon, blood test shows a tendency towards Chrons. Yet as I say, the symptoms have been mild, the muscle pain, spasm, etc. are more severe. Im trying to decide whether to go for mri ortho tests first, or the colonoscopy. I would feel better about the scope if my body didnt hurt so much. So, I was wondering if anyone out there had an opinion whether Chrons with mild symptoms could cause the other problems, or whether the Chrons would be a lot more severe to cause other types of inflammation. I realize that this should be determined by a doctor, but I am trying to decide which direction to go and just getting some opinions. I definately have an inflammation of the colon. It is somewhat sore, but I only have one bm a day, no blood, mucous etc. After a bm, sometimes I am sore and nausea for an hour or so, then I may be fine for days or even a week. At the same time, I have muscle pains in the shoulder area, some tingling in my arms and legs. So the question is, the muscle /tingling bothers me more than the ibd symptoms. Do you think its likely that this is caused by the IBD? If not I would be more likely to check out the muscle symptoms first, then the intestines. Do you think that the Colitis/Chrons should be more severe to cause muscle/nerve symptoms ?
