Thanks all. Just when I thought the pills couldn’t get any bigger! LOL..these things are enormous. Anyway, I’ll let you know how I do on them. My main problem now is urgency to go and then I just poop the yuckies…blood, mucos. I felt this way just before I got very sick. So, heres hoping it works or at least helps. :) BTW I’ve had UC for 12 yrs. Nancy

The Visocal pills you are talking about? If so, you are right I was shocked when I saw them. I can swallow a handful of pills at a time, don’t like taking the meds for an hour> But with the prep pills I was worried about choking to death on them. Even bought a cutter just in case. But I managed to take them whole. Just remember if you start to run completely clear upon going BM you don’t need to suffer with any prep taking more if all you are passing is water. UM MOM Susan

Hello, I have Intestinal Colitis for about 2 1/2 years now. I have been on Asacol for all this time until recently with only about 2 flare ups. But I had another flare up possibly something that I ate and the Asacol really did not help out. I was going to the bathroom like once an hour. The Dr. changed me to Colazal and its been so so for me so far. The real kicker here is I just entered the Police Academy and I am under a lot of stress phsycially and mentally and I think that has something to do with it. I wake up at 530 AM every morning to go to the Academy and my stomach does not like that. The Dr. said to give it another week to see if it gets better if not he will switch me back to Asacol…. I take Imodium just to get through the day…

I’m interested in people’s experience with Colazal, too. I didn’t take Asacol for long because of my reaction to it, but I took Asulfadine for years. My white blood cell count is extremely high, so about a month ago we stopped the Asulfadine. Two weeks ago I started Colazal. Oh, I have CD, not UC. But the CD is now in the colon. Anyway, while I’ve noticed a decrease in the <d>, I’m still having a lot of pain. How long does the Colazal generally take to work? any ideas? Reesie

Fernando, I have been on Colazal for about three weeks now, after being on Asacol for years (~10). I am UC class of ‘82′. I am finding that it is behaving about the same as Asacol, though I have been supplimenting with Pro-biotics and have been finding some relief. The one weird side effect is that it is turning my stool (diaheria mainly) bright yellow. Am taking a wait and see with this drug, and will give it another month or so before I re-evaluate my course of treatment with my Physician. Best of luck in the academy I am sure you will do just fine. Stay focused, and don’t let this setback get you down. Regards, David
