Sounds like a fistula to me. I’ve had one in the same spot, just outside of the rectum (sorry for the details, too). It’s very dangerous to leave a fistula without medical treatment. I left mine alone, and I woke up delerious one day because of the bacteria that entered into my bloodstream. I felt so high that I couldn’t even talk, with a fever of 105. The docs in the ER said I would have died if I had delayed less than a few more minutes. No joke. Fistulas are NOT GOOD. Go to the doc ASAP. They cut mine open, and it drained, but then it hardened up into a lump and stayed there ever since. It’s been there for about a year now. It’s sick, but it doesn’t hurt or drain so I don’t really care. Diarreha will aggrivate a fistula. Keep taking hot baths; as hot as you can take. Get some Anusol from the drug store and apply it to the area.

Hi! Regardless if it’s a fissure or a fistula, hot baths may help the pain. I’d definitely go see my Dr about it asap. If it is an abscessed fistula, they can help the pain immediately by causing it to drain properly. Good luck!!! Sounds like a fistula or abscess to me- aren’t fissures right up in the sphincter? I’ve had fistulas come to the surface several times, and at least two of them developed red blood-blisters on top. In one case I was so desperate I lanced it myself, and what came out? not yellow pus but dark red blood. Brownish actually, turbid not clear. But it let the pressure off. The scary thing is, what if it’s a hemorrhoid and you lance it and drain your blood supply? You need to have a doctor look at it. I hope you already have. If it is a fistula or abscess, and there’s a choice between surgery and antibiotics, I would favor the latter. All the best, Ed

Yikes! Whatever it is, it sounds painful! You prolly better call the doc and have him/her take a look at it. Until then, keep it super clean (aloe wipes, baths, etc) and try to keep busy to keep your mind off the pain. . . . Rebecca
