HELP! IBS! HELP!

Question:

Hi Joe, Ive had colitis for 26 years. In 1985 I had a job that required alot of walking. 45 minutes of walking every hour. I did that and 2 yoga exercises and I felt normal again. Like I didnt have colitis. 1 exercise was the cobra and the other was the salabhasan. Put your fist under your hips as you lay on your stomach and lift up on the upper trunk of your body and your legs. I can’t remember the name  of that yoga stretch….  It stretches the abdominal area.  I lay on my belly and raise the top half of my body, kind of like a cobra.  Use your arms to raise up and don’t stretch too hard. Mary

Have you seen a Dr. about the panic attacks?  If there is no medical cause for them, it could be possible to have one if the stress level is high enough. I could see where a 16 hour day could cause problems.  I’d talk to a Dr. about what you could do to ease up some of the stress.  I take the xanax and it helps.  I only take it when I realize that I am unable to de-stress on my own.  I don’t take it all the time because I am one that doesn’t like to take anything unless absolutely necessary.  Exercise seems to help with my stress also. Mary

Joe, Is there anything that happens at the time of the flare ups that is upsetting to you?  Mine acts up with stress.  If I can’t control the stress, I take a low dose Xanax.  As for eating, I usually eat soups, toast, pretty bland stuff.  If the cramping is not so bad, I usually take pepto bismol. If the cramping is bad, I’ll take a Bentyl(Rx).  One of the most important things to work on is the stress.  Oh, and NO coffee or other caffiene during a flare up and drink lots of water to keep things moving. Mary
