Taking Ceftin for unrelated infection

The first time I knew that antibiotics could help my UC was when I took Ceftin for a sinus infection. Any time you take an antibiotic though you need to realize that you may be killing the good bacteria in your gut too so the bad ones may come back worse. That is why it is always a good idea to take probiotics along with the antibiotics. Let me know if you would like more details. Regards, Jeff

UGH! Good luck. I hope the new GI works out. Hey, if you really have a problem, do what I did, I just showed up in the ER and said my new GI (who I hadn’t yet seen or decided to use) was my dr. I was so happy w/ the new GI that I’ve never looked back!

Thanks UM Mom, I live in Beloit, WI. I made an appointment with a doc that was recommended in Janesville, just up the interstate. I see him on Feb. 12. I don’t know, maybe I should call him on Monday and see if I can get in sooner. I’ll go check out the rx list right now. Thank you so much. — Tiger Eye Remove the 21 from addy for replies

Yeah, I ended up in the hospital the last time I took Cipro. Then, since I couldn’t take the only oral drug that would kill this nasty penicillin resistant bug I had, I was on IV antibiotics (outpatient) for two months. I have my fingers crossed that this Ceftin will work. No one knows if I’m still carrying the resistant bug. Knowing my own body, and having had so much experience with this bug last year, I think it is back. But I’m willing to try this first in hopes of avoiding the IV. I had to take two nebulizer treatments last night, but then I got better and didn’t have to go in, thank God! Hi Everyone, Since I was diagnosed last Friday, and first posted here, I have learned so much and felt so welcome. I have a sinus infection now; and I’m terrified of the Ceftin aggravating my UC; not to mention being scared I’m going to be allergic to it. Over the last couple of years I’ve started becoming allergic to more and more antibiotics. I also had a terrible c. diff infection last year from antibiotics. That causes pseudomembranous colitis, basically the whole lining of my colon shed. It took months to get rid of it, even after I stopped the antibiotics. Getting that now while I have active inflammation could be a nightmare. I would be interested in peoples stories of how certain antibiotics affected their UC. If the Ceftin doesn’t work, or if I develop an allergic reaction, then I will have to go on IV antibiotics. Ugh! Right now I’m having problems with my asthma. I have taken two nebulizer treatments in two hours. I don’t know if it is the Ceftin, or just a coincidence with my normally mild asthma. I called my primary and talked to him about it. He thinks it is just my asthma aggravated by the infection and my anxiety over going on antibiotics. I know I’m anxious, but I don’t think that is it! I took a xanax and it hasn’t helped. My HR is way up there, and I don’t even want to know what my blood pressure is! I’ve packed a bad, and am ready to go, cause I think it will be an ER night!
