It was weird; he kept using that term, instead of "inflammatory bowel DISEASE," or more to the point, "ulcerative colitis," which is clearly what the guy had (since smoking was recommended as a treatment). Other than that, it was impressive to hear "5-ASAs" and "mercaptopurine" used in dialogue on a primetime TV drama.

The nicotine in cigarette smoke helps UC patients only. For CD patients it greatly worsens the disease. Mind you, smoking will kill you, just slowly and painfully.
